Training Philosophy(Gentle Ways Create Gentle Horses)

My training always starts with a diagnostics workup. That way I will know where I would like your horse to be in 60 or 90 days or however long it will take to get your horse to where you want it to be. To get there, we need to know where the horse is now, from a behavioral perspective. This will include assessing your horse's inherited disposition, and their learned attitude. How well a horse learns depends on both the horse and its owner. I will make a guess that about 85% of the time, the diagnostics will show me where we will be say for about 60 days of training, and I'll know what it will take to get there. The other 15% of the time it may take me two or three training sessions to figure out what all is going on in the horse's mind. These are generally horses that have passed through various owners with extreme opposing training perspectives or have been through a very traumatizing experience with humans. I will never tell you that I can guarantee your horse to be “dead broke” within these few months because there is no such thing as a “dead broke” horse. Horses are very unpredictable animals and we have to take that into consideration when wanting training put on them. I always let the horse tell me when they are ready to learn something new instead of forcing multiple new things on them at once and expect them to learn it all within a few months. I will always use patience, gentleness and consistency, and consequently, the horses I train will demonstrate these same qualities. That is why I always say that “gentle ways will create gentle horses”.
